What is Carlsberg carbon reduction all about? According to edie , the Carlsberg Group 's 2020 Sustainability Report sets out the progress made in its Together towards Zero strategy, which aims for zero water waste and includes science-based targets aligned with the 1.5C goals of the Paris Agreement . We tell you!

Carlsberg carbon reduction targets
Through this strategy, Carlsberg aims to achieve zero carbon emissions in breweries and a 30% reduction in emissions from beer on hand by 2030.

The carbon strategy pillar also includes 2022 targets to eliminate all coal use in factories, reduce factory emissions by 50% and “beer in hand” (end product) emissions by 15%.

The latest report reveals Ecuador Mobile Number List that Carlsberg achieved a 7% decrease in carbon emissions across its value chain – what it calls the “beer footprint” – between 2015 and 2019. The company also recorded a 12% reduction % in their breweries' relative carbon emissions in 2020, meaning brewery emissions have been reduced by 39% since 2015.

The company's first carbon-neutral brewery

In 2018, the company repurposed its Sverige brewery in Falkenberg to run entirely on biogas and renewable energy, making it the company's first carbon-neutral brewery. Since then, Carlsberg has made adaptations to create a total of eight carbon-neutral breweries, three of which were achieved last year.

100% renewable energy

Carlsberg used 100% renewable energy to power its 29 breweries in Western Europe for the first time in 2018, with energy sourced from a mix of on-site solar arrays and through renewable energy certificates. Currently, 64% of electricity comes from renewable energy, as the company aims to reach 100% by 2022.

Water efficiency

Carlsberg improved water efficiency by 7% in 2020. Last year, the company partnered with Desolenator in India to create 20,000 liters of water a day for a village of 4,000 people using the first sustainable water purification technology through solar energy. Water management efforts in Vietnam also helped create infrastructure that will bring fresh water to some 20,000 people.

In addition, Carlsberg published its first information based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Reporting (TCFD). The data was presented in the company's annual report for 2020.
