In Andalusia , halfway between Sierra Nevada and the beaches of the pleasant Costa Tropical is Lanjarón . Rest, water, beauty, history and above all peace, a lot of peace. These would be the adjectives that quickly come to mind to define this town in the mountains of Granada.
After leaving behind winding roads and discovering a curious windmill, we enter Lanjarón to immerse ourselves in a sanctuary of relaxation. Characters like Virginia Woolf, Bertrand Russell or García Lorca could not be wrong when each year they decided to test its charms and be seen in the famous summers of Lanjarón.
You go to this municipality to eat, rest and even go hiking, but above all you go to enjoy the water circuits. And for this there is nothing better than the famous spas. This town has one of the best spas in Spain and is where you should spend your days. Furthermore, my recommendation is not only to take spa and water activities but to stay in their beautiful rooms with a terrace; Your body and mind will thank you.
Once we have relaxed we can go out to enjoy the charming corners that Lanjarón offers us. One of them is, without a doubt, the Lanjarón Castle , which is accessed by a very easy walking path. Upon arrival you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the town and the Sierra; a picture that is priceless and that will last in your memory.
In addition to the Castle, the town enjoys other spectacular viewpoints around the Telegram Number Data town from which you can obtain different panoramic views. To visit them I do recommend that you take the car because there is a certain distance between them. And if you can only choose one, I suggest the Mirador del Río Lanjarón , very close to the train station on foot.
Lanjarón Castle
The main mission of Lanjarón Castle was to control the passage to the Alpujarra from the coast and Granada . In addition, it served as a refuge and defense for the population. It was built around the 13th century and reinforced in the 14th century.
One of its most relevant historical moments is that of March 8, 1500. On this date the Moors took up arms. King Ferdinand the Catholic then headed to the town to take back the castle. According to what they say, more than 300 Muslims died by throwing themselves from the castle walls when they found themselves completely cornered by the monarch.
With the definitive expulsion of the Moors, in 1568, the Lanjarón Castle was progressively abandoned and ended up falling apart.
Lanjarón River Viewpoint
The Lanjarón viewpoints allow you to enjoy the privileged landscapes of the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. The views are stunning. From the heights we can enjoy the valley of the Lanjarón river and the mountainous relief that surrounds the town.
The Lanjarón River rises in the Sierra Nevada, in a glacial basin located between the Tajos del Nevero and the Tosal del Cartujo . Along its journey it collects water from different springs. The river basin covers an area of about 54 km² and its length is 21 kilometers.
Where to eat
If all that relaxing and walking has left you hungry, no problem. In Lanjarón you have wonderful gastronomy . Among my favorite spots are Noah's Ark , if you're thinking about tapas, or Venta El Buñuelo , if you prefer a heartier meal.
When to visit Lanjarón
If you like the atmosphere and seeing the town in its maximum splendor, summer is your time. Lanjarón dresses up and multiplies its population. If you prefer to disconnect and not meet many people, you should go in September.
