Instagram tests two new features to filter content, giving more power to users

It seems that Meta is taking the requests and demands of its users seriously. We already saw this when Facebook announced the integration of a new additional feed , divided into sections, that would allow users to filter the content they want to view.


Now, it's Instagram 's turn , which has just introduced two new functions aimed at making it easier for users to control the type of publications they want or don't want to find on the social network.

Indicate what you do not want to see, to discard that content
From Instagram, they have issued a statement on their Email Data blog in which they express their concern about offering people relevant content that makes them feel satisfied with the time they spend on the platform. Expressing in turn that:  Our ranked feed prioritizes the posts we think you are most likely to enjoy, but we understand that we may not always get it right .”

This is why the social network wanted to provide its users with more options so that they can guide the platform . In this way, they will receive content of real interest to them and their experience will be more satisfactory. This has resulted in two new features:

Mark several posts as “not interested” at the same time in the “Explore” section : this function could already be applied to posts in the main feed. The novelty is that, now, you can use it in the “Explore” section and without having to go post by post, marking as many as you want at once.
Ban keywords , phrases, hashtags and even emojis : it will be possible to tell Instagram that we are not interested or do not want to see posts that include certain words, hashtags, emoticons, etc.
Other ways to filter content on Instagram
As a user you can have different interests or use Instagram for various reasons: see your friends' activity, follow brands, discover trends, etc. This is why having the ability to determine the content you want to view will be essential to enjoy the social network. On the other hand, it is also important for Instagram and the brands with a presence on it that users are satisfied and do not abandon it .



To help users be comfortable and enhance their experience, Instagram has been introducing a series of options:

Mark accounts as “favorites” : Doing this will prioritize the content of those accounts, appearing higher and more frequently.
“Following” option : by selecting it you will see the publications of the profiles you follow in chronological order. This will show the posts from the last 30 days.
“I'm not interested” : By checking this option in the main feed you help Instagram discard certain content.
Adjust the control of sensitive content : in the settings section you can indicate the amount and degree of sensitive content that you are willing to see.
Snooze Suggested Posts – If you do not wish to view this content. The option lasts 30 days, after this time you can renew it.
